Databent Linguistics is a sound art installation created in collaboration with Yeri Jun.
The goal of the project was to create the sound of a new digital language through databending various audio recordings of randomly selected words in real languages: English (spoken by Duncan) and Korean (spoken by Yeri).
Sensors were placed on the jaw and they recorded the movement and vibration via Arduino. Based on the data collected from the words spoken in each language, different parameters related to the audio character of the databent sound were adjusted, resulting in two distinct sounding digital languages, much like the ones we speak in real life. The monitors face each other to imply a conversation is occurring between them.
